Birds of Tokyo
Rock chameleons Birds Of Tokyo will stage some unconventional shows in Australia’s favourite rock venues over the coming months. The band will perform an opening set in ‘acoustic busking mode’ followed by fully plugged performances of electric anthems like “Lanterns”, “Good Lord”, “Plans” and “Unbreakable” which have seen them grow into one of Australia’s most popular bands.
The tour’s name and concept were inspired by a new single they’re dropping today – “Heartbreakers Bar”. This rowdy, leave-your-cares-behind singalong features raw acoustic instrumentation. It’s accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek video which gave the band the idea to perform this song live – and reinterpret some of their classics – like they were ‘busking’ in a small bar. After intermission they will then return for a full rock show including deep dives into a catalogue which has won them the APRA Award for “Australia’s Most Performed Rock/Alternative Work” on a record setting six occasions and delivered five top 3 ARIA album charts, including two #1’s.
Since exploding out of Perth with their indie classic Universes way back in 2008, Birds Of Tokyo have created a body of work that’s struck an extremely broad chord across Australia. They are one of Triple J’s three most played artists of this millennium as well as one of Triple M’s core local artists. The band has appeared on major festivals including Falls, Splendour In The Grass and Red Hot Summer, toured with everyone from Muse to Bon Jovi and headlined major sporting events from the F1 Grand Prix and NRL’s State Of Origin to the AFL Grand Final (twice).
Birds of Tokyo will be joined by critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, Sahara Beck and the tour is proudly presented by Triple M.
